We Need to Extend Wisconsin's Driftless Trout Fishing Season! - Petition

Well it's that time of year again.  I am fed up with the long trout fishing break and I am to the point where I have got to try and change something around here.  Trout season has been closed since September 30th and won't open again until the first Saturday of March!  That my friends SUCKS!  I am only in the early stages but I am hoping that soon we can get the DNR to hear what we have to say and that they hopefully will at least take a second look at the short trout season we have here in the Driftless Region.   I am hoping to have a season that ends October 15th and stars again January 1st of each year.  By doing this you would avoid bothering the trout while they spawn and it would help us poor fishermen/women who go crazy in the winter from the denial of stream access.  Please make no mistake that I am concerned about the health of the trout and what is good for the trout as well.  To me it only makes sense to extend Wisconsin's Inland Trout Season.  What are your thoughts on the matter?

I have made up a petition to Extend Wisconsin's Inland Trout Season and am hoping for a 1000 signatures.
If you would like to be part of this initiative please head on over to it and sign the petition :)

  1. I agree. The economic aspect of this is hugely important. Think of all the money not spent during the closed season. If we are smart about it, it can be done.

    1. Nate,
Thanks. It's all about being responsible and making smart decisions. They will hopefully take another look at the streams and realize that fishing part of the winter will help boost money towards fishing and help improve the streams that need it ;) Tight Lines.

  2. As an angling addict I couldn't imagine packing away the gear for half the year. That said, I pursue other opportunities other than my preferred species and angling styles. My understanding of a closed season in this respect is not just to protect the species but to aid law enforcement. If there were a catch and release season the DNR would spend more time and money searching out poaching.

  3. I'm a little ignorant on the subject since we have no closed season in Colorado. But it seems to me that as long as protections are taken to prevent disturbing the spawn, that changing the dates would benefit the fisherman and the state.

  4. I couldn't agree more my friend. Even if they opened the season on the first of the year it would be better. Spawn is usually over with by the end of December anyway. The extra months are senseless. Plus I have never heard a legitimate reason why the season is closed so long. Thanks for stickin up for the fellow anglers!
