GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE - PRICELESS !

O.K. this is a quick post about customer service.  I recently had a problem with my rod tip section on my ST.CROIX AVID SERIES 7' 3 WT.  My guides had worn through and ended up cutting my fly line.  Yes, I should have probably paid attention to my rod's condition a little better, but I was still sad to see my fly line float away into the depths of the stream.  This pole has seen a lot of action and has been through a lot.  This tip section was actually one of the third replacement tips.  The other two went down to automatic seatbelt and one got rolled up in the window.  So I decided to contact ST.CROIX and see if they could help me out with this problem.  I contacted Jeff Little of ST.CROIX and explained what happened and if there was anything they could do to help me out.  I received an email back almost immediately.  It said that if I sent my tip section in they would send a brand new one to me as soon as it arrived.  So I sent it into them and mailed it priority.  I received another email saying that they had received my rod and they were sending the new one out.  About 2 days later after returning home, there it was.  Leaning up against my door was a cardboard tube, heaven to the eyes.  Sure enough there was my new rod tip.  AWESOME.  FREE of charge!!!  No questions asked.  All I had to pay was about $5.oo on shipping and I was back on track.  Needless to say, I hit the water as quick as I could.

I don't know what kind of fly rod everyone else uses, but I myself will always fish ST.CROIX.  The prices on the rod's are pretty much one of the best deals when it comes to rods.  The way my avid is able to toss flies into spots no bigger than 10" is just great.  Your rod of choice is something personal, and what works for you is what works for you.  New technology comes and goes, something new every year it seems.  The one thing that I think is most important is the Customer Service that comes along with what you spend your hard earned money on.  Any rod can be used to catch a fish, but if that rod breaks and your left fishing with a broken stump of a pole. because you can't afford to replace it, than what good is it.

I just wanted to give a big thanks to Jeff Little and the rest of the ST.CROIX team for your great customer service.  You got a customer for LIFE!!

Tight Lines forever...!

Disclaimer:  This is my opinion only.  I was not payed or given anything for this statement.  Just some great customer service.

  1. I have the Avid 6ft 3wt and love it. It was broken by some students at stream side classes.
I'm going to email St Croix and see what can be done.
    Thanks for the info TM

  2. I haven't had many rods but with all the different brands I've had pretty good customer service. Redington will send you a whole new rod if it breaks. There is a charge for shipping and $20 service fee. Orvis was the weirdest one. They actually looked up the serial number of the rod I had and tried to find out exactly when it was made to see if it was in fact still under the 25yr warranty. There was a service charge for that one too. I just bought that st croix rod and I have to say it is my favorite. The action is in a different league compared to my other rods. I'm glad to hear their customers service is great.

  3. I got the same type of service from LL Bean (no cost to repair, no cost to send it back, just a little postage to get it there) when I broke the tip off my first fly rod. That broken tip is the reason I have my second rod which is from TFO. I couldn't stop fishing now could I? Haven't needed to send that one back, but if I do I'll report on their customer service.

  4. It's hard to get good customer service these days...anywhere. So it's great that St Croix has been so good about helping you out.

Good looking fish as well...nicely done :-)

  5. Awesome! That's great service and I've read about how you liked dealing with them in the past as well.

Reddington sent me a new tip, free of fee, but I had to go up the ladder a bit to get that deal. It took a manager to authorize it. I was displeased that it was only my 4th trip with the rod and the tip snapped while casting a dry. ?? It also took forever to get it to me.

I've since broken that tip (car seat snag) and my TFO (car door), plus a cheapo rod and am out of fly action. Hopefully the TFO people are good enough to help when I care to send them the road and fee. Be sure to report on that, when it happens.

  6. BrkTrt,
That sounds like one sweet rod. I remember hearing that it got broke on that adventure. Since it wasn't wear and tear they may not replace for free. A brand new tip section should be able to be ordered for about $40.00 though. Which is a pretty good deal. They may still replace it for free. Let me know what happens. Tight lines.

  7. Kev,
The St.Croix rods really do have great action. With my 7' 3wt. I can throw little small flies and can still chuck some decent sized bead heads with precision. Tight Lines.

  9. Sanders,
Thanks much. I have owned a few rods, and ST.Croix has been my favorite. The prices are good and so are the rods themselves. Tight Lines.

  10. Loah,
I hear you man. I have broke more than my fair share of rods in my day. A rod should definitely last for a few more trips than 4. I once broke my tip off first day when trying to free the guides of ice. Made me sick to my stomach. Tight Lines.

  12. I had St. Croix Legend Ultra rod that was cursed by demons. It broke three times...the first three times I fished with it and they replaced the busted pieces each time. Cant blame the rod...more like a stupid fisherman. I love the rod now that the demons have been chased out of it.

I got the same rod. Avid 7' 3wt. Got it from a customer of mine used only once for... are you ready 35 bucks. Love it for small streams. TFO rods are my favorite though and I've only had to use Customer service once. Outstanding! Had my rod back in 3 days good as new.
