Crystal - Clear Your Mind

The sun has been shining and things are greening up quickly here in the Driftless.  Bird's are chirping and the geese are louder than ever.  The spring peepers can be heard as soon as the sun starts to set.  Sometimes I go past patches of them that seem to be almost deafening.  I have taken a few trips in the last week or so and have discovered some new stretches of stream that yet again took my breath away.  Ocean made a trip with me.  He was sure to bring his camera and caught a lot of nice images himself.  Each time I find myself in a new location I can't help but just stand in awe at the new sites, sounds and even the trout that have their own characteristics depending on which stream you are on or what part of the stream you are fishing.  The trout I came across on one of the streams were extra aggressive and equally spooky.  When hooked they were quick to try and shake the fly.  We caught fish, photographed fish, missed fish, dropped slippery fish and spooked just as many :)  It was just what we needed :)

  1. Sweet! I like the pic of your boy's camera's screen. You guys really like fishing that hole, eh? Looks like a winner.

    1. Justin,
Thanks much. That hole is a winner for sure. It is a hole on the stream I live next to. We ride our bikes down there and it is a nice pastured spot for the kids to hone their fly fishing skills :) It spills up against a limestone bluff which makes for a good holding spot for the Brownies. 3. Great photos.
It looks like your streams could benefit from some rain.

    1. BrkTrt,
Thanks very much. We could definitely use some rain. A flood or two take some head water beaver dams wouldn't hurt :) Those creeks in the photos are up at the head waters of two streams that travel over 12 -15 miles in length. So they are a little shallower and gin clear :) Tight LInes.

  4. One of the things that is a very vivid memory of growing up in Kenosha is the birds chirping on a spring morning.

    1. Shoreman,
I forget during the winter just how good it is to hear all the bird's early morning. So long as it isn't a crow outside my window before I am ready to wake up :) Tight Lines.

  5. Looks like Spring has definitely sprung up in your neck of the woods. I really need to get back up to the Driftless earlier this year , don't think I can wait until fall. Those shots of yours showing the beautiful waters and the browns , brookies and bows that inhabit them aren't making it any easier on me either!!
    Good stuff as always....

    1. HPFF,
Thanks much. Spring is here and the weather is pretty nice too. The water is gin clear on some streams which can make for some spooky waters. I am sure when you make it back to the Driftless you won't be disappointed :) Tight lines.

  6. McGee, I finally figured out your secret to great photography. It's not the camera, it's the photographer and the beautiful places you go. Thanks for thrilling me again. I love the 2nd one in particular.

Those streams were custom made for my 7 1/2 ft. 3 wt. or even a 2 wt. Wild trout in those streams are awesome. The images as usual are fantastic. By the way do you change settings when you encounter a shaded area or sun area? Thanks for sharing

    1. Bill T,
Thanks much. The 2 wt. would be great for tossing some dries. Just hope a big Brown lunker doesn't hit it :) I usually fish the same flies from shade to sun. Too lazy to do it any other way :) Tight Lines.
